Findings Through Art

1.) I don't usually use my own hand as a reference because on my left hand I have a curved pinky finger, this is called camptodactyly. I love using hands as references though, it is always fun drawing and painting hands. 2.) I used an Ebony pencil, this creates depth and a definite line. 3.) My left hand is hard to do a lot with, it was fun trying to use it though, but even doing an outline of my hand was hard and took a while. 4.) This outline is definitely a good base study and I could build more with this simple drawing, the final drawing turned out better than I expected. 5.) I probably wouldn't do it in the future especially if I'm trying to convey a more realistic feel.

1. I chose the video Florence: Heart of the Renaissance because I have learned about the Renaissance in the past and wanted to broaden my knowledge on the topic, especially related to art. I went to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh for my Module 5 museum choice. Christianity Facts: - In Romanesque churches, architecture is largely focused on. They have rounded arches. In the Durham Cathedral in England, there is heavy, thick-walled architecture, and they’re geometry-based. Gothic architecture sprung from Romanesque architecture. - The Chartres Cathedral is known for its beautiful stained-glass windows that tell the stories of France. It has the largest collection of 12th and 13th century stained glass. - Flying Buttresses are a form of Gothic architecture - Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City was built in 1506. 2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the OER Content? In the reading labeled "Ancient Greece and Rome" and the videos both had similarities in the way that sculpture was highlighted, Greek art highlighted life as was stated in the videos too. In the reading, it states that Greek art wanted to symbolize a desirable way of life, focusing on leisure, the arts, luxury, and learning. They both mention the importance of marble in Greek art as well, proportions were obtained with marble in Ancient Greek sculptures that were carried into modern Western Civilization art as well. 3.) 1.) Creating the Color Wheel and the Value Scale was easy to follow with the videos, I enjoyed creating them and it worked out okay other than the fact that my acrylic paint was acting more like watercolor and I'm not sure why. 2.) I preferred working with the Ebony charcoal pencil, it was smooth and my acrylic paint was not mixing very well and was well saturated it was creating a more see-through effect. 3.) The most important discovery is the fact that color and value is endless, just primary colors alone can mix to be a lot of other colors. The value scale shows how artists can develop dimensions and deeper texture to their art. 4.) The videos from this module showcased the importance of color in the world, color isn't just a surface delight for your eyes, it delves into emotions and possibilities. The video and tutorials were interesting and I learned facts I didn't know before about color and its impacts.
